Straight vs. Body Wave vs. Deep Wave: How to Choose Your Hair Texture

Posted by Aubriras Boutique on

Texture is the first thing people notice about your hair, and it also decides how much time you will spend styling it. Straight, body wave and deep wave are the three textures in our Crown Collection, and each one has its own look, feel and care routine. Here is how to choose the one that fits your style and your schedule.

Straight: sleek and polished

Straight hair lies flat with a smooth, glossy finish from root to tip. It gives you the most polished look and is the easiest texture to keep tangle-free.

  • You will love it if: you like sleek middle parts, bone-straight looks or a blowout feel
  • Styling: easy to curl for a night out, then brush back to straight
  • Care: shows oil and product buildup faster, so use a light hand with oils and wash when it starts to look flat

Body wave: soft and versatile

Body wave has a loose, S-shaped wave that falls into soft movement. It is the most versatile texture: wear it as is, flat iron it straight, or curl it tighter.

  • You will love it if: you want one install that can do a little of everything
  • Styling: the wave relaxes a little over time, which many people like. Scrunch with a light mousse to bring it back.
  • Care: comb from the ends up and avoid brushing it while dry, which can make the wave frizzy

Deep wave: full, defined curls

Deep wave has tighter, defined curls with lots of bounce and volume. It gives the most fullness and looks gorgeous in a wash-and-go style.

  • You will love it if: you want big, bouncy curls and lots of volume
  • Styling: best worn curly. Wet it, add a leave-in conditioner and let it air dry to bring the curls back.
  • Care: curls need more moisture. Detangle with your fingers or a wide-tooth comb, never a fine brush, and keep heat to a minimum so the curl pattern stays defined.

Still deciding?

  • First install or not sure? Start with body wave. It is the easiest to switch between straight and wavy.
  • Want to match your natural hair? Choose the texture closest to how your hair looks when it is styled the way you usually wear it, so leave-out blends in.
  • Love curls, but want less work? Try curly on a glueless wig so styling happens off your head.

How many bundles will you need?

Curlier textures look fuller, so you may need one bundle fewer than with straight hair at the same length. Our bundle length guide breaks it down, and our hair grades guide explains what raw, virgin and Remy mean.
